The Dog Rescue Process
Save Texas K9s is a nonprofit rescue dedicated to saving at-risk dogs in Texas. When a dog enters a Texas shelter, the clock starts ticking. Overcrowding and limited resources mean many dogs only have days—or even hours—before they’re euthanized.
Save Texas K9s is committed to changing that. We step in where time is running out, rescuing dogs on the brink of euthanasia and giving them the chance they never got.
These dogs aren’t broken—they’re just out of time. Through our rescue, they get the love, care, and second chance they deserve. And in return, you get a loyal companion who will love you unconditionally for the rest of their life.

How We Do It
Our rescue journey begins with a life-or-death list. Every day, we share urgent euthanasia lists from overcrowded shelters across Texas on our Facebook page, Save Texas K9s. Texas has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country—and we act fast.
Once a dog is selected by an adopter or sponsor, we race to the shelter—often with only minutes to spare—to pull them from the euthanasia list and give them a second chance at life.
After rescue, each dog enters our care for at least 30 days. During this time, they receive:
Full veterinary care (vaccinations, spay/neuter, preventatives)
Time to decompress and recover
Temperament evaluation and matching with the right home
We thoroughly vet all potential adopters to ensure each dog is placed in a safe, loving environment. Once approved, we coordinate transport to their forever home—whether it’s across the U.S. or even abroad.
💸 It costs us an average of $500 to rescue, vet, and transport each dog within the United States.🌍 For international adoptions, that cost can reach $1,000 or more.
Every dollar donated helps us save lives—one dog at a time.

We Need Your Help
While we do collect adoption fees, it often costs even more because sometimes:
- WE TAKE ADDITIONAL DOGS
- WE TAKE INJURED DOGS
- WE TAKE MOMS WITH PUPPIES
